One of my favorite tools is a paint brush. It can be used for so many applications.

Rose, let me tell ya...one of my favorite tools is my clear grid ruler. I couldn't see a straight line if my life depended on it. ;D

I am interesting in how to attach 'tools' to my pieces.

I'm sure you'll have great ideas for this.

Hmmm, well I should say my favorite tool is my clear ruler also, as I use it for my quilts and for my illustrations as well.

thanks for joining in the fun. getting & learning how to use the tools of the trade are important first steps...

My lovely little chopstick. A little pointey thingey when I'm sewing, and then I turn it over for a little flat thingey when I want to 'finger press'.

You introduced me to the duck billed applique scissors and reverse machine applique. I have been happily sewing and cutting away with abandon!

my current favorite tool is the seam ripper and/or tiny pointed scissors. Sometimes I do more un-quilting than quilting

omg! I was totally gonna say my seam ripper is one of my favorite tools, too. That pointy little tip gets into the tiniest places to clear up little issues. And, yes, to rip out mis stitches. ;)

I would have to say that my favorite tool, one that gets me through everything I make, is my sewing machine. When it isn't working right, my day just doesn't go right. When it is working perfectly, things go fabulously.

Thank you all for your comments. Its fund to hear what tools we love and can't live without. Laura, I know what you mean about your machine...I take my Bernina for granted...years and years of service, then right before the holidays it let me know it needed more tlc than usual... humming commenced immediately with the help of Scott my dealer!

One of my favorite tools is really not a tool. It is my freezer paper!! I use it almost as much as my sewing machine. Right now I have your book Dream Landscapes open for inspiration while I design a new quilt. I made my big freezer paper pattern yesterday and as soon as I have 1/2 a day, I will start cutting it out and making my pattern pieces. I'm so glad that you have taken the time to do your quilts and share your wonderful knowledge and techniques. BTW...I loved the cactus quilts in person. You are so imaginative!

Hi Rose, your new book looks like a great book and your at home studio for workshops are a cool idea. How do you do it all? I love scissors by the way:) I even have one that cuts foam!

A few favorite tools come to mind, but one of my newer discoveries is just a pipe cleaner. Daubs of fuzz above and below the needleplate now vanish like magic! I'm sure this fuzz-magnet lessens how often I need to stop sewing, and get out the screwdriver to clean more deeply! p.s. Another memorable class, Rose!

Rose Hughes said...

wow Judy, a pipe cleaner... hadn't even thought about using one to clean out my s-machine. glad you enjoyed the class, I look forward to seeing your African landscape all finished. I'm sure it will add the wonderful memories of that incredible trip!

I was watching a quilting video today (on line)and one of the guests was asked 'If you were stranded on an island & allowed to have one quilting tool, what would it be?' The answer: a needle! I have to agree with that answer too. A needle!!!

One of my favorite tools is the rotary cutter. Boy, that makes a big difference to my hands, from way back when I used to sew.

Sigh...I just got the hang of Blogger and realised where I was spose to comment. It's the thought that counts Rose. Hope you are having an awesome week.

How bout this one for my last comment....

My big sliding glass door is a good tool to use as a light box. The multitude of sticky tape marks need eucalypting now and then but it is excellent to use for big or small project transfers.
