Long Beach Quilt Festival

Hi All- July has been a busy, busy month, and there is still plenty of fun things coming up. It has just been hard to fit in any regular tasks amongst all the special events. This coming weekend brings with it lots more of those special events. Quilt, Inc. is having it's 2nd Annual Long Beach Quilt Festival this coming weekend and it promises to be even bigger and better than last year!

It's always fun to have a show like this in your own back yard and better yet when you have a chance to participate in all the fun. This year you can find me in one of several places....

First off -- Quilts on The Wall: Fiber Artists
has a special exhibit in the show this year.

Detours
Juried by Georgia Freedman-Harvey & Cindy Rinne

Is part of the group that was selected.
QOW - will also have a table at the show so,
stop by and find out more about our group.

Secondly, on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 I will be giving a free lecture... Representing
Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA)

Embellishment Advendures
come hear about recent embellishment safari fun

Also, on Saturday from 1 - 3pm,
I will be signing my book at the Beyond the Reef booth

I'm really looking forward to the weekend.
Hope to see you there, too!

Quilt Camp In the Pines

I know that you may have been waiting to see more of the embellishements, but book 2 has taken over... and now I'm in Flagstaff, AZ at Quilt Camp. The road from LA was a bit of a trip but it was pleasant and what fun it is to have arrived. It is my first year of teaching here and I know that I have found another organzation that knows how to take care of us quilters. It is being held on the campus of Northern Arizona University... beautiful place, and checking into the dorms was like being back at college. I will try my best to keep you posted...

as for embellishments, all will be revealed at the Long Beach Quilt Festival during my presentation for SAQA...

the summer fun continues!

Button, Button

My fellow travellers and I where able to hunt down some incredible finds on our embellishment safari. Joanell & Jeanette have been kind enough to share their photos with me and I will attempt to share some of these with you.

Our favorite finds had to be the buttons, and while we knew there were amazing varie
ties out there we were surprised at how much fun it was to hunt down and see in the wild all these little wonders.
There were two popular watering holes where the 'little (and some not so little' beasts) chose
to show off. The first was a store call The Button Store, 8344 W 3rd St, LA. When Faye, the owner, tells and shares all about the buttons in her store you will be in awe. She is incredibly knowlegable and giving, and the the buttons in her store should not be missed. Her collections of modern and antique buttons is extensive and she carries quite a few exclusive lines. It was truly a treat to visit this store.

Our second, must see locations for buttons was F&S Fabrics in West LA. While the collections of fabrics and trims were incredible at this store, the buttons found here were volumous.

I'm including here five photos... sorry but there were so many to choose from, color wise, texture wise, thematically
and just plain fun that I can only leave you a small taste.

Enjoy... a
nd check back for more.
Even better, tell me about your favorite button places.

Just A Peak

Behind the
signposts there were many wonderful finds, and we have the photos to prove it. So here is a peek from the doorways of several of the locations we stopped at. These came from Joanell's camera. Thank You J!

A Few Sign-posts Along The Way

The members of my expedition met as planned yesterday morning.
Star
ting off as any
'right' expedition would, 'with coffee'. And then we were off. These are just a few of the sign-posts along the way.
More... definitely more will follow...
